Good Omens

Written by the wonderfully talented Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Read by the significantly less talented Lili, because she is bored and should be doing uni work.

ELEVEN YEARS AGO
Chapter 1
Part 5.2

The baby swap continues, as Mr Young and Sister Mary struggle with communication.

ELEVEN YEARS AGO
Chapter 1
Part 5.1

The beginning of Sister Mary’s narration as she attempts to effect the baby swap.

(Split into two audio files because some workman began drilling outside, adding a somewhat un-atmospheric soundtrack.)

ELEVEN YEARS AGO
Chapter 1
Part 4

The beginning of Mr Young’s narrative as Crowley delivers the baby to the hospital.

(I’ve decided that a little blurb on what’s in the audio would be helpful, so at a glance you can know what bit we’re up to.  Also to make up for my absence, here’s 2 posts in one day!)

ELEVEN YEARS AGO
Chapter 1
Part 3

Crowley reflects on life on earth while driving, and is given orders.

(Sorry for the impromptu hiatus!  I was busy with real life, curse it.)

ELEVEN YEARS AGO
Chapter 1
Part 2

Crowley meets up with some fellow demons and is given an ominous task.

(This one’s a bit longer than the previous posts, at 10 minutes long.  But it’s one of my favourite excerpts of the book, so I think it’s worth it.)

ELEVEN YEARS AGO
Chapter 1
Part 1

I’ve decided on saying “note:” when there’s a footnote.  Otherwise it would just sound like it’s in parentheses.  If this doesn’t work let me know!

Also, I know it seems like this excerpt ends rather abruptly.  But I’m going mainly on how the book is divided into little chunks, and this was indeed the end of a chunk.  I didn’t want to put it on the beginning of the next chunk, because it’s a very long chunk about Crowley and it would make the audio way too long.

…I like typing chunk ok.  It’s a fun word.

Also, I probably won’t do more than one or two readings a day from now on.  But I wanted to get the blog off to a good start!

IN THE BEGINNING

I lied.  Here’s some further ado.  Mostly just an audio introduction and a note on my pronunciation of Aziraphale and Crowley.

Feel free to ignore!

Hello there!

My name is Lili, and I am embarking upon the mammoth task of reading all of Good Omens out loud, because of reasons.

I’m not quite sure what those reasons are.  I think they mostly consist of my obsession with love for the book and willingness to share it with EVERYONE.  Also I enjoy the sound of my own voice reading out loud and have been meaning to make a blog along these lines for a while.

USUAL DISCLAIMER: I didn’t write this book.  It was written by absolute geniuses.  Whom I urge you to follow on twitter (Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman) and also tumblr (Neil Gaiman).

So I hope you enjoy this!  If you have any tips on my reading style, feel free to drop me an ask.  I’m always looking to improve and seeing as this is primarily for YOU GUYS and not me, I want to read the book in a way you’d all like best.

Without further ado, on to the first reading!

~Lili

PS: I know the line is “slouching hopefully towards Tadfield” but that was too long for a url and “towardstadfield” just makes me think it reads “toward Stadfield”.
